Thoril grew up in the great mountain halls of Harligan, home to Clan Lighthammer, squired to Dwothar of Clan Battleguard a well respected and honorable knight of Harligan. As the oldest of 10 children, Thoril was often looked upon to be the example for the rest of his family. He spent many decades studying the Knight’s Code and how to best honor his Clan through combat and his actions. He especially excelled in the use of the Dwarven waraxe, quickly choosing it as his favored weapon mostly as symbol of his heritage and their natural strength. Dwothar was surprised by his unwavering commitment to the ideals of a knight and so kept him as his only squire, which was rare when the Dwarven city only had four qualified knights the entire 30 years while Thoril was squiring for Dwothar.
His days were filled with training and study, so he had very little time for much else outside of the world of knighthood. The only distraction he allowed himself was the friendship of a Priestess of Roon by the name of Helia. She also came from a large family, very common of the Dwarven families of Harligan, and was the same age as Thoril. Helia helped to keep Thoril’s spirits high when he would get bogged down in his work, always offering a kind word or keeping an eye on him to make sure he would remember to eat. But due to their devotion to their chosen paths, nothing ever grew out of the relationship other than a very strong friendship. Though Thoril does keep a small pouch with him at all times, within it is a small bit of cloth embroidered with his family crest that Helia made for him.
After the Second War ended, Dwothar saw a great opportunity for his talented student. He presented Thoril before Baribur of Clan Battleguard, the leader of all of the clans within Harilgan and asked that Thoril be finally rewarded with knighthood. The request was granted and Thoril became Sir Thoril. Baribur’s only request was that Thoril then go out and aid Nishra by joining their weakened army and show them the strength and the virtue that a knight of their race can embody. Sir Thoril accepted this task without question and proudly went off and joined the army of Nishra.
